Two namesake Johns at road honoring John Gilbert Martin, father of Raymond. John was on the first Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District Board and later served as Harris County Commissioner for East Harris County. John G. Martin was the great grandson of Dr. Harvey Whiting who settled along the Goose Creek on 4,000 acres he acquired from a Spanish land grant in 1832. Dr. Whiting provided resources and medical support that were greatly needed in the success of the Texans at San Jacinto.
